In front of a purely partisan, extreme left wing liberal, support-Clinton-no-matter-what, audience; the mushy pro-Slick Willie rhetoric reached critical mass proportions, in DNC-lovefest-forever-chusetts. Well, the hearts were bleeding more fast and furious, than the hemophiliac ward at the Mayo clinic. All the local touchy feely Democrats and tricksters were there, from John Lewis and Charles Ogletree to Anita Hill. I bet afterwards, the janitors needed shovels to clear it out!
The President missed another chance to make up for his attack-take and then take back responsibility-non-apology speech of August 17th. Instead, he used the emotionally charged occasion of a milestone in our civil rights movement, to cry sour grapes! Heck, I could have sworn that he also sort of compared himself to Nelson Mandela, and brought up Boris Yelsin ( you don't negotiate with someone on the way out )?
The President said:
" All of you know, I'm having to become quite an expert in this business of asking for forgiveness. It gets a little easier the more you do it. And if you have a family, an administration, a Congress and a whole country to ask you, you're going to get a lot of practice ".
Sheesh, what a sticky blob of raspberry glop. Why didn't he think of this back in January? I don't remember him asking anyone in public for forgiveness? He may have asked Hillary in private, but I seriously doubt it. See: I smell 60s open marriage... ( 8-21-98 ) . To forgive his stupidity at getting caught?
The President also said:
" ...the anger, the resentment, the bitterness, the desire for recrimination against people you believe have wronged you, they harden the heart and deaden the spirit and lead to self-inflicted wounds ".
Is he refering to himself, and the Whitehouse minion smear campaign directed against innocent people just trying to tell the truth, and the possible damage he has done to himself and them, through these spinmeister ( liar ) tactics? Is this some kind of veiled threat to his detracters? Or, is he simply trying to rationalize his vicious attitude of August 17 ala' sour grapes? Just like a high school bully, he would have never said anything to begin with, unless he got caught with his pants down!
The President finally said:
" And so it is important that we are able to forgive those we believe have wronged us, even as we ask for forgiveness from people we have wronged, ".
He just can't seem to ever say that he really did something wrong. I am still trying to figure out what he was refering to as " wrong " ( he never said he was wrong, but that the " inappropriate relationship with Monica " was wrong on August 17th? ). Is this some kind of psychological quirk?
Lastly, Clinton also included in his speech, " Love thy neighbor as thyself ". I won't touch that one...
Why can't he approach an apology, without always taking shots at the investigators and/or witnesses? This is a clear cut episode of mere " sour grapes "!
