If you haven't read Not Safe At CNN ( 7-3-98 ) , then you may not be aware of my views on the CNN(DNN) Tailwind story and woefully inadequate retraction of same, by Ted Turner and "Hanoi" Jane Fonda's supposed news(fiction) network. I believe the story was done on purpose to slander our nation's military by the dark forces of the vast left wing liberal socialist conspiracy. My previous story spelled this out and used quotes straight from CNN(DNN) itself as proof.

I guess CNN realizes that my view may be held by quite a large percentage of the news watching public, because they aired a news conference by the Defense Department concerning Tailwind in its entirety. No other channel was airing it live; at least not the whole thing. I suppose they were trying to make up for the poor excuse for a retraction, that they aired after everyone ( except Sadam ) questioned their voracity and intent of airing the original " fiction ".

Everyone was there, from Secretary Cohen to representitives of all branchs of the armed forces. They issued a cohesive report spelling out that there was no truth to April Oliver and Jack Smith's cruel anti-American slanderous attack piece. Cohen made very clear that American defectors were not targeted in Tailwind and that Saren gas was never used in any operation. His exact words were something like these ... " not a nod, hint, wink, or subliminal suggestion was found to support the allegations "... of any of the CNN-Time report.

April and Jack's use of hypnosis and retro-therapy in the Tailwind fiction, is like " McMartin meets The Twilight Zone ". When are reporters like these going to realize that they can't turn their wacko ideas into facts by mere suggestion alone?

Even a left wing conspiracy mouth piece like CNN had to bow to popular pressure. I hope this serves to show them that the American public just won't fall for reporting that more resembles a 70's, SLA, Unabomer, anti-American, hate pamphlet, than reality!

I think that if Peter Arnett was an unsuspecting party in this charade, he should really go public with a condemnation and explaination of the fiction he was made a party to!
