I mourn the loss of Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson. They both gave their lives in heroic acts of bravery in stopping Russell Eugene Weston. Other victims were still hospitalized in various conditions, after Friday's attack. Many more would have been killed without the swift actions of all the security people involved.
The openess of our Capital Building must remain, and I am afraid we may see this kind of thing again, as as long it remains that way. The metal detector did its job, and the officers did so too. I was reminded of the left wing radical Wearther Underground gun play of long ago. The only other gun play I remember of late, had something to do with Puerto Rico.
When I first heard that Weston was from Montana, it made me think of the Unabomber freako. In fact, I saw a talking head mention that he lived less than 40 miles from Crazy Ted. I suppose it would really be a stretch to think that they somehow knew each other ( and shared the same far left views ) ? I is it possible that part of the country has a population of this type of antisocial freaks? Was Congressman DeLay actually Weston's target?
Additionally, I heard that Weston had been institutionalized and was on some form of medication. If this is true, then how did he get a hold of a handgun? In my state, you would not be able to purchase any gun, if you had been institutionalized or on any associated medication!
Somewhere the system failed, but it wasn't at the site security level. I salute the officers and their sacrifice!
