St. Valentine's Sunday Massacre?

Past Presidents ( especially Nixon ) are rolling over in their graves while Republican Senators sit, heel and roll over for the President.

Arlen Specter led the Republican charge of the lap-dog brigade with two votes of not guilty. Granted the first vote was " not proven ", but it was taken as not guilty. His second vote was verbally echoed and recorded as not guilty, so make no bones about it, this is how he wanted to vote. Is Specter getting ready to announce his retirement or a jump to the DNC? I am still trying to figure out whether it was suicide or surrender or both!

Bill Clinton may have his beloved DNC ( or the 900 Whitehouse/FBI files? ) to thank for his acquittal on the two impeachment articles, but he and his minions received extra ammunition to destroy the GOP with from five spineless Republican Senators: John H. Chafee, Susan Collins, James Jeffords, Olympia Snowe and the Senator from Scotland, Arlen Specter! These five marvelous specimens of GOP cowardice caused the vote on article two: obstruction of justice, to fall short of a simple majority by voting not guilty. Additionally, five of their supposedly Constitution loving cohorts joined them in voting down and killing even a simple majority vote on impeachment article one: perjury. Ask these five why they voted to let Bill Clinton off: Slade Gorton, Richard Shelby ( remember this guy was a Democrat six years ago, so I was surprised he voted guilty on article two ), Ted Stevens, Fred Thompson ( almost makes me want to take another look at the evidence ) and John Warner. These Republicans have become partners in Clinton's exoneration and the failure to get even a simple majority on either article will soon come back to haunt all those who felt Clinton should have been removed, from legislators to prosecutors to witnesses. The damage these few have done, is quite probably as bad as that of Clinton himself!

Will the Sunday political shows answer questions or muddy the waters?

Republican Representitive and Manager Lindsey Graham said, " The decision to remove the President was tied to popular opinion ". He continued, " The President has been Constitutionally cleansed " but by " a process that made a result that will be questioned ".

Republican Senator Don Nickles said to " put the impeachment trial behind us ". When asked if he trusted President Clinton, Nickles replied, " not really ".

Republican Senator Phil Gramm said, " the institution of the presidency is probably bruised..." When asked if he trusted the President, he said, " Trust but verify ".

Democrat Senator Joseph Lieberman said we " protected the presidency, not the incumbent ". Whoa, who is this guy trying to fool? You could actually see his nose growing on television as he was saying that!

Republican Senator John McCain thought " the process worked ". Yeah right, sure man; whatever you say?

Democrat Senator Daniel Moynihan said, " his ( Clinton's ) behavior was reckless, shameless and indefensible ". Okay, I guess that clears up why he voted for the acquittal of his fearless philandering leader?

I am just mad because I wanted to see all the Senators rationalize their votes officially. Closing the deliberations was the lamest idea the Republicans supported ( there may arguably be other extremely lame ideas in competition with this one ). I really wanted to put this behind myself, but until I read the Congressional record, I just can't put the last of the details to rest.
