*January 28, 1999 Day Twelve ( 13? ). Senate Democrats begin to deliberately stall the impeachment trial process!*
Like the robotic Clinton/DNC/Whitehouse lapdogs they are, Senate Democrats ( minus Russel Feingold for now ) have disgraced themselves, their tarnished political party of ill repute and all Americans, with their oath of impartiality breaking joint declaration of un-independance, in support of their precious first philanderer.
Bill Clinton has been absolutely proven to have obstructed justice beyond any hint of even a shadow of a doubt. There has been no denial of his witness coaching of Betty Currie on atleast two occasions; one before and one after she was officially put on the Paula Jones case witness list. The only defense to this has a been a weak contention by Whitehouse lawyers that the President was trying to refresh his own memory. I mean, please; this is akin to the left wing radical Unabomber saying, " I didn't mail those letters ", as a defense? Sorry, it just has no basis in reality, what so ever!
I believe the perjury charge has proven strongly also, but it may be argued that it doesn't rise to the level of impeachable conduct because of the initial subject matter. I am not trying to suggest that I buy into this Whitehouse spinmeister slanted view.
This is not to say that the Republicans are not complaisant ( I just love those double negatives ). The Republicans have caved in by holding deliberations in private. This just may be a plea to the likes of James Carville and Larry Flynt not release any more salacious Whitehouse FBI file or Hustler magazine articles that deal with Republican legislators. It may sort of be like, ' we won't publicize, if you don't publicize '!
The Senate Democrats continue to do the bidding of Clinton and his dark Whitehouse, by blocking depositions and/or live testimony of witnesses. What are they trying to hide? Do they really want to keep the public from finding out the truth? Isn't it bad enough that they have thrown their oaths of impartiality into the circular file and they are carrying the water for a corrupt, self-admitted liar-in-chief in the Whitehouse? This delay by Democrats is just such an obvious action of cover-up. Will they attempt to fillibuster any resolutions through endless amendments? Can they do that as an impeachment court?
The only thing that Senate Republicans can do to rehabilitate themselves, is to not allow the Senate Democrats or the Whitehouse to delay the impeachment trial proceedings any longer. If this means passing resolutions of procedure along direct party-line votes over their protestations, then so be it! This seems to be the case, as Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott put forth a resolution that covers taking depositions and debating the rest of the issues next week after the depositions have been completed. Debate was waived but the Democrats offered two amendments. The first vote on a Democrat amendment was 54 to 44 against passage, with Russel Feingold voting aye. On the second Democrat amendment, on going straight to a vote on impeachment, the vote was 55 to 43 against passage, with Feingold voting no. The final procedure resolution, Senate Resolution 30, was passed 55 to 44, with Feingold voting no. The Senate impeachment court resumes on 1PM Thursday February 4, 1999.
