I have voted for less than a handful of presidential candidates that ultimately won the election, in my history of balloting. They were Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan ( once ), and George Bush. Now you can try to figure out who I voted for, that lost the election. I didn't vote for Bill Clinton in '92 because I liked Bush and didn't trust Clinton ( it's always better to be safe than sorry ). I didn't vote for Clinton in '96 because of the mess he made prior to the election ( thank God the Republicans got control of Congress in '94 to stop the insanity and balance the budget ).
I was hoping that the first president from my generation would bring all the great ideals my friends and I used to talk about back then. Boy was I wrong. He managed to hide his far, far left wing radical tendencies and got right in step with the Democratically controlled " tax and spend " Congress, that ran our national debt up in the 80s. He brought his small town political machine cronies with him to populate the most important positions in the Whitehouse.
I dismissed the allegations of his draft dodging, womanizing, and anti-war demonstrating. Heck, most of my friends did at least two of those three, back in the 60s; but none of them went to Russia and partied with the real commies. We all loved to hate Kissinger and Nixon, but Clinton seems to have embraced all the bad qualities of that past administration. Dirty tricks, enemies lists, cover-ups, sounds all to familiar. All this from a President who pledged to have the most ethical adminsitration in history. Yeah, right...what a joke ( but, not so funny; as the joke is on us ).
I was really hoping that the first president from my generation would bring more civil liberties with him. Instead, he brought socialist ideals, big government intrusion into individual freedom, and partisan political party greed. One must only examine his first term record of signing bills, health care plan, and log of stays in the Lincoln Bedroom, to see that I am correct on this one!
I didn't aggree with the majority of Executive Orders that he has created, but that is just a difference of opinion. One of them does smell like political party payback, though. He signed an order turning our nation's largest low sulfur coal reserve in Utah into a national monument. Okay, so we don't need no stinking coal. But when the contracts for supplying domestic utilites and companies with this low sulfur coal, are awarded to an Idonesian company ( Lippo Group ) that gave big bucks to the DNC and Clinton Election Campaign; it really makes you stop and wonder why? Is he being sneaky, and trying to deplete their coal first ( saving ours for later ) ? This is harder to imagine, than the payback scenario!
He lauded the Congress and signed the largest tax increase in the history of our nation before the '94 election stopped the big business tax and spend democrats assault on the common citizen. This can not be denied!
He populated his Whitehouse with cronies from his campaign and Arkansas political machine. Why couldn't he get some folks with experience, instead of paying back his loyalists with the appointments? Some of these people had to leave because they either were totally incompetent, or couldn't pass the drug test part of their security checks ( I saw the Senate hearing concerning the security checks myself ).
Instead of the civil liberties ideals of the 60s and 70s, he brought the greed of the 80s and 90s to the Whitehouse. One only has to watch a few of the " Whitehouse Coffee " tapes and see him talk about " we figured out a way to get around the campaign contribution limit of 1,000 dollars and get it in 10,000 dollar wads " to see how greed was governing his actions. Sure, other presidents may have had a few fund raisers in the Whitehouse, but not the hundreds of paid events associated with the current administration. Doesn't this form of conduct violate the sanctity of the place?
I apologize again for the first president from my generation, and I really hope the next one brings morality and integrity with him, whatever his party affiliation.
