The CBS television show SURVIVOR amplifies the negativity of the human spirit. I watched the first few episodes of this so-called reality based television show, where contestants are faux-shipwrecked together with the last remaining individual awarded one million dollars, until the verbal abuse and conflict level between the contestants became too mentally aggravating to continue. Like LORD OF THE FLIES only with adults, this show was a disgusting showplace for every human quality most peolple find offensive in others. The level of viciousness grew every week until the final winner was announced as self declared corporate executive trainer, Richard Hatch. ( No not that Richard Hatch; and yes, I actually paid partial attention to the final two hour episode and the last five minutes of many of the subsequent ones, as well, to keep track of who was voted off. ). One fellow castaway described Hatch as a snake. He was quite arrogant from the very beginning and most of what shows I caught featured him almost exclusively, as the production company put the episodes together well after the so-called ordeal was over and they knew he was the winner ( and, as it seems so did he? )!
Though there were no deaths, the casualties were the human traits of decency and respect. The people threw away any trappings of civilization like telling the truth or fulfilling your committments, except maybe one individual named Rudy. The winner was a " the end justifies whatever means imaginable ", axiom of lifelessness. Sound familiar? This is the extreme left wing socialist ideal? LIE, CHEAT, STAB IN THE BACK; these are all standard operating procedures in the SURVIVOR SERIES of dumbing down dreary dramas or so-called reality based game shows ( no, not another one...don't worry, that one will bomb, big time )!
The MESSAGE was " good guys finish second ", as Rudy, the only one of the whole group who blatantly told the truth through out the weeks of open air confinement and interactions, finished SECOND.
The (im)moral of the story was that LYING, MAKING PETTY ALLIANCES and STABBING PEOPLE IN THE BACK pays off ( something that our precious fearless leader has illustrated over and over again in Washington D.(N)C. lately )!
