A vanquished Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr appeared before the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee to fall on the swords of past and present independent counsels. He flat trashed the independent counsel statute as it is written right now. He cited a bunch of reasons that are not worth writing about, as the statute is dead for certain. The most interesting thing about the proceeding was the way the liberal Democrats jumped down Starr's throat individually, as they couldn't do it before the final impeachment vote. Carl Levin was disgusting yet relentless, in his personal attacks on Starr. He brought up all the old Groomaldo showesque misleading statements about Secret Service testimony, Sam Dash's resignation, Lind Tripp, etc.. It was disgraceful the way the other Democrats piled on as well!
It aggravated me so much to see the President's Cabinet members spin instead of tell the truth in front of Congress, that I filed my notes in the circle file of: Madeleine Albania, Conehead and Shetland Pony.
Didn't Bill Clinton promise to save the budget surplus to save Social Security? Well, that F-117 we lost cost as much as the Whitewater investigation plus. Clinton is now spending the so-called ficticious budget surplus on his imperialistic personal war to recoup his name in history. Tell Grannie she could have had Filet Mignon instead of Purina, if Bill Clinton hadn't had to play with his toys.
Representitive John Kasich ( R ), Chairman of The House Budget Committee, thought this war would become costly and pointed out that the Social Security Trust Fund was the only element that was solvent in our national budget. He did not believe we should be in Yugoslavia and opined, " The military saw this as a dubious mission at best ". He didn't want to escalate the war, but he wanted to get Russia involved, with " let's get some folks talking ".
Republican primary candidate for president Pat Buchanan, described the Clinton/Gore War as: They told Milosevic to sign the rights to Kosovo away " or NATO would turn into the airforce for the KLA ". He really couldn't understand the way Clinton is bombing, saying " If we are going to war for these people, don't we want to keep them alive? " He said to stop the bombing and that the Clinton administration has " created a humanitarian catastrophe that wasn't there three weeks ago ". In contempt that the House and Senate are sponsoring this illegal war, he declared, " Congress is AWOL ". He finished the interview I saw with, " You don't compound your mistake by sending two hundred thousand of our boys to recover your reputation ". Amen.
Representitive Ron Paul ( R ) was the only Representitive to vote against giving the President a blank check in Yugoslavia. Now what does that say about the spinal rigidity of the Congress? Has the bloodthirsty dove Ted Kennedy really joined forces with the caring hawk John McCain in perpetuating the illegal Clinton/Gore War?
