In my opinion, Spike Lee borders on being a racist and his films, glorifying the black ghetto drug culture, help to teach the gang kids which violent acts work the best. The last thing America needed was for a violent filmaker like Lee to shoot his mouth off recklessly to the media. His movies already teach the inner-city kids that killing and maiming your enemies is how to most efficiently solve their problems; so his comments concerning Charleton Heston ring even more despicible, coming from an irresponsible rich fatcat, though a black role model, like him!
It is being widely reported in all the media ( like that really makes it true ) that the morally bankrupt and decadent director was quoted in Saturday's New York Post as telling reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that the National Rifle Association should be disbanded and, of Heston, " Shoot him with a .44 Bulldog ". This is as irresponsible as it gets. On the heels of the Columbine and Heritage high school shootings, remarks like this " shoot him " one, are like yelling fire in a crowded theater!
By Thursday Lee was weenie'ing out, and offering up this whimpering excuse or rationalization for his irresponsible statement, " I intended it as ironic, as a joke to show how violence begets more violence. I told everyone there it was a joke. I said I did not want to read in the papers, ' Shoot Charlton Heston ' ". Well, then you should have thought, before you shot off your stupid mouth, huh?
He was not apologetic in the least, as he continued to rationalize, saying his remarks were in response to a question about whether Hollywood was to blame for the recent rash of school shootings. This man has about as much decency as the first philanderer. He defended his beloved, yet heartless and greedy, Hollywood buddies, declaring arrogantly, " The problem is guns "? What a piece of work. I bet he carries a gun himself. Certainly many of the characters in his B-movies use them as the catch-all answer to every question or conflict!
Charleton Heston said, Thursday, on a KABC talkradio show, " The statement is a foolish one and it's not worth arguing about. If he wants to come and take a shot at me, go let him try it ". Lee would quickly find out that real gunfire is quite different from the prop department variety on one of his sleazy movies. It must also be pointed out that Heston did say that " He ( Lee ) gave me a big laugh ".
Even House Majority Leader, Representitive Dick Armey, condemned Lee's " embrace of violence ". Armey continued, " Spike Lee obviously has nothing to offer the debate on school violence except more violence and more hate, and he should apologize immediately for this unfortunate remark ".
In a final act of hopelessly bad taste and extreme arrogance it was reported that Lee said he had no reason to apologize. Lee has made such racist or violence exploitation movies as " Malcolm X ". Personally, I find his B-movies are rank and offensive!
How come black racists like Spike Lee or the ever-popular Louis Farrakhan are millionaires, but white racists like Tom Metzger are vile hated bigots? You see, I believe that they are all pityful bigots who should be shunned and/or shamed by all intelligent caring people!
