Is it safe to lie in court?

Yes, if you are the President.

Having now read both the OIC referral and the Whitehouse rebuttal, I now offer up my opinion.

Bill Clinton had at least one kinky sexual relationship, with a much younger female government employee.

Bill Clinton lied under oath in front of a Federal judge and/or jury; in civil and criminal matters.

Bill Clinton either conspired with or lied to, his friends and colleagues, to perpetuate a cover-up of both the sexual relationship and his lies under oath.

Bill Clinton abused his political position, in getting a job for the object of the sexual relationship in question, in exchange for her silence.

Bill Clinton directly lied to the American public, on a matter being investigated by a Federal prosecutor.

David Kendall has offered up no credible evidence to refutiate any of these charges.

What I think actually happened.

I think that Bill Clinton has a proclivity for receiving oral sex, and Monica Lewinsky gladly obliged. When the Paula Jones lawsuit surfaced, Clinton realized that his oral sex based relationship with Monica would be evidence in Jone's favor. Monica was not helping, but hindering his effort to cover it up.

When he became aware that Paula Jones attorney had learned of Monica, he began the illegal abuse of power; including lying, witness tampering, and possible conspiracy with other government officials ( you really have to see the rest of the evidence to make a judgement on this part ).

What should be done?

I don't believe the inappropriate sexual relationship is an actionable offense. The Constitution does mention the President is supposed to be a " virtuous " man. Was Clinton's conduct consistant with that?. I don't believe that the Congress would impeach a President on these grounds alone.

The President lied to the people directly, on television; on numerous occasions. This was one of the articles against Nixon, but it wouldn't lead directly to impeachment, without other associated actual criminal charges.

The President committed perjury in front of both civil and criminal procedings. These are serious felonies. The Congress may impeach on these grounds.

The cover-up is where it gets sticky for the President, that part got Nixon, after all. The crime is minor, but the cover-up is a major felony. Conspiracy to committ any crime is, in fact, a felony. We must all wait to see if the evidence supports these more serious wrong-doings. The Congress should impeach Clinton, if these charges are judged true!

I believe that the President should resign and save the country further pain. I also believe that the Democrats are heartless enough to back the President, all the way, on his way out. This may mean that you can lie to everyone, including the courts, and conspire to mislead the courts; if you are the President of The United States, and get away with it!
