Robbing Peter to Pay Paula.

OK, now I've heard everything.

Over the weekend it came to my attention that Slick Willie Clinton and his other attorneys have made an offer to settle the Paula Jones sexual harassment civil suit. I won't get into the tacit admission of guilt (which most of us were fairly certain of anyway) of that particular ploy, or the not-so-veiled attempt to remove one of the legal issues which could lead to Clinton's impeachment (witness the investigation of Mike Espy for yet another example of this tactic involving Tyson Chicken). That's already been dealt with by enough talking heads, spinmeisters, and otherwise 'experts' on the political scene.

No, the (current) problem I have has to do with the source of the funds for this settlement, should it ever come about. It was also reported this weekend that Slick Willie was talking with DNC fundraisers to pay for the settlement. Doesn't it bother any of you Clinton apologists, not only that he's admitting guilt without legally admitting guilt, but that he's taking the money that you donated to get your favorite Democrat(s) elected and using it to pay for a suit against him personally? What's next? Will the DNC pay off every woman who has a legitimate claim against him and every suit brought against him personally? That could run into the hundreds of millions of dollars! (Said at most partially with tongue in cheek)

There's something wrong when a private citizen, whether he be President or not, can solve all his legal problems by charging them to his political party. He should have to pay for his own legal costs and fines himself. Presidential privilege only extends so far.

It seems to me that the DNC should be worrying more about spending its money to get Democrats elected in the next Congressional elections (coming real soon); they're going to lose enough seats in both houses as it is, regardless of their spinmongering, which paints Republicans as being 'out to get' Clinton when all they're doing is following their oath...remember that part in the Oath of Office (yes, Congressmen have to take that, too): '...protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...' Looks like the enemy here is Clinton, and the Republicans are defending the Constitution.
