Did you see Bill Clinton pinning those medals on the three released POW's chests? It was a disgrace to all the past, present and future soldiers who have, are, or will receive medals for bravery in battle for the United States of America. They actually got six medals for being lame enough to get captured ( and without a fight, no less )?
A bigger disgrace was Clinton referring to them as heroes. That reference sullies the reputations of all the G.I.s in history who have given their lives defending our country. These three were not taken prisoner after they ran out of ammunition, leaving mountains of enemy casualties at their feet, they were nintendo soldiers on a sight-seeing ( or laser designation ) mission discovered by the Serb defenders. Hey man, these guys surrendered without a fight; that is not heroic ( though that kind of cowardice may be familiar to the draft-dodging Bill Clinton ).
To make matters worse, one of the phoney medals Clinton awarded our " heroic POWs ", was the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is awarded to those soldiers who are wounded in war with the enemies of America, and bumps, scrapes and fat lips just don't count. How many G.I.s who got shot and/or lost limbs in previous wars are feeling trivialized right now?
There are specific criteria for awarding the Purple Heart, and criteria for excluding it. First, it has to be in a war, in combat; not being appredended driving illegally in a sovereign foreign country. Second, the wound has to be a serious battle wound caused by the direct action of the enemy. There is a long list of many situations the layman made have thought would constitute grounds for award of the Purple Heart, but don't; I won't try to recite that.
Anyhow, we know these three are not heroes. If you think they are, you tell me what they did that was in the least bit Audie Murphy or Sargent York-like! I am just getting sick and tired of the President doing whatever may be his whim, in order to glean media photo-op points and opinion poll percentages.
Lastly, we know these guys were not shot or stepped on a landmine or something; so, awarding them a Purple Heart is just downright ridiculous. This just shows the contempt that Clinton actually has for the military. He is feeding these three guys medals like giving treats to a dog after it does it's obedience trials. The combined troops were just too full of their own pomp and circumstance, to realize what he just did to them ( or maybe the three POWs figure they can all write books and go on the Groomaldo show after they are discharged )!
Hey, we are all glad these guys were not killed and finally released, but I wouldn't have pinned medals on their chests; I would have asked them where the Hummer ( 4X4 vehicle ) they checked out of the motor pool ( parking lot with miltary attendant ) was?
