I Don't Need No Doctor?

Unsafe in the examination room?

I had the misfortune of visiting a doctor a few weeks ago. I was referred to the physician in question by another one, and to my temporary delight, the one she referred me to was a doctor I had visited a few times in the past, so there would be no need for a time consuming or costly initial visit.

The nameless male doctor spent approximately fifteen minutes questioning me while performing no tests other than gently tapping one knee with a small mallet and looking into my eyes, before referring me to another doctor/technition for some complicated diagnostic tests.

I was glad to find out from the physician who performed the test that everything looked normal.

I was not glad to get the bill from the doctor who I had the brief conversation or consultation with, in between the referring physician and the testing physician. The referring physician sent me a bill for slightly less than two hundred dollars for a full blown examination and office visit, and the testing physician a bill for less than five hundred dollars, which included the test and interpretation of the results.

Okay, are you ready for this...the in between doctor who talked to me and performed no tests billed me for five hundred dollars! Well, if you multiply five hundred dollars for fifteen minutes over a respectable year of work, this creep who is supposed to help people made himself a millionaire in his first year of ripping people off. He helped all right, helped himself to mine and my insurance company's money for doing nothing but agreeing with the first doctor, without performing any real tests ( you just can't consider tapping my knee that one time a test )!

I would submitt that the problem with America's health care system is not the insurance companies charging too much, but the blood-sucker crooked doctors who are gouging the patients and their insurance companies, through incredibly ludicrous over-charging!

Can you think of any other vocation or business where the price for services isn't spoken of until the services are rendered, and these charges are completely up to the whim of the provider?

Maybe socialized medicine is the only way to fight the crooked doctors and stop them from stealing our hard-earned money through excessive billing, by keeping their salaries and cost for services as low as they were in the CCCP a decade ago?
