While Jesse Jackson announces that he has successfully secured the release of the three American POWs, Kenneth Bacon continues to lie through his teeth at the Pentagon. While a critical Jesse Jackson says of the NATO bombing of Belgrade, " Mostly civilians are being killed ", Bacon says this about the pending POW release, from the Pentagon, " We said they shouldn't have been kidnapped in the first place ". Are these Clinton politically appointed vermin ( oh, excuse me, ' spokespeople ' ) really that heartless? Vladislav Javanovic, Yugoslavian Ambassador to The United Nations correctly pointed out that in the case of NATO, " You can't treat war-makers like peace-makers ". I say, don't ever forget this; NATO attacked Yugoslavia first, without any direct provocation!
This is the thanks that Slobodan Milosevic got for declaring the release of these Americans. The Associated Press reported, A NATO missile struck a civilian bus today on a bridge about twelve miles north of Pristina, killing at least twenty-three people. Supposedly, a rescue worker on the scene claimed he had counted thirty-nine bodies. Reportedly, the first missile struck about 1 p.m. local time, cutting the vehicle in two, sending part of it plunging into the abyss off the bridge, but then an hour later, another missile hit and an emergency services doctor was injured. Independent journalists on the scene later saw about fifteen bodies which were burnt beyond recognition in the remains of the bus which fell off the bridge. The Serb media had the eyewitness account of Maksic Rajko, described as a Serb farmer, " I was in my garden working when I heard the sound of a plane flying; I turned towards the sound. I saw a bus on the road and suddenly it exploded. I heard screems and I came to look ".
The Associated Press forwarded that the Yugoslavian media reported these NATO targets destroyed yesterday: " 1) In Pancevo, a missile exploded in front of the police station, blowing out windows at a nearby hospital and damaging cars in the parking lot. 2) In Montenegro, local television reported that NATO planes Friday destroyed a bridge leading to Kosovo, killing four people, including two small ethnic Albanian girls. 3) The Serbian Media Center in Pristina reported four ethnic Albanians, including a father and his two sons, were killed in NATO attacks Friday on two Kosovo villages. and 4) In the Kosovo city of Prizren, five people died when NATO missiles allegedly struck a poor neighborhood ".
I mean, Clinton even had the gall to sign an Executive Order today, to officially add a United States embargo on Serbian Yugoslavia to NATO's own embargo. This effectively freezes American held Yugoslavian assests, if they were stupid enough to leave anything here at this point. Check this out, heartless National Security Council spokesperson, David Leavy said, " As we continue to intensify the air campaign, this is another step in tightening the noose around President Milosevic's war machine ". Embargoes only hurt the civilian population of countries, and Yugoslavia's population has been systematically killed and wounded for over a month. I guess Clinton has become so bloodthirty now, that he wants the women and children of Belgrade to die of exposure and lack of medicine ( not to mention the death and dismemberment of non-combatants present at the purely civilian locations intentionally targetted by Clinton's NATO forces of darkness ). It was being reported that the order went into a little more detail with, " The second Yugoslav republic, Montenegro, was exempted from the sanctions ". Okay, they may be exempt from the sanctions, but they still are receiving explosive deliveries from American ( oops, NATO ) aircraft. This just goes to show you how conscience-impared this group of White House cronies/minions really are, or have become, in paying homage to their morally bankrupt Cleanser-in-chief!
The Russian reaction to this ridiculous illegal embargo on the sovereign state of Yugoslavia by the criminal aggressor alliance of NATO and the great living God Pharoah Bill Clinton was easily predictable. Viktor Chernomyrdin confirmed Russia would ignore a European Union ban on oil shipments to Yugoslavia by saying that an oil " embargo can only be announced by the United Nations Security Council ". Not to be humiliated by the spinless Europeans, he said, " We have nothing to do with the E.U. decisions, they are not binding on us, we will not help them in this matter ". Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov called on NATO to " pause, think better of it, and stop the barbarous actions in Yugoslavia ", and characterized the increasingly brutal campaign of consciously targetting civilian locations as, " NATO resorted to genocide in Yugoslavia. This aggression is unreasonable and unprovoked ". Obviously Yeltsin was passed out somewhere with a bottle in his hand?
Not to be outdone in the useless carnage reporting race, NATO spokesman Jamie Shea smirkingly said the Yugoslavian offer of accepting a United Nations peace " mission " was " not worthy of serious consideration " and did " not come close to meeting the demands of the international community ". I think he meant to say the ' NATO community '. Another NATO spokesperson, Peter Daniel, NATO's director of information continued the alliance's bloodlust for more civilian targets to bomb. He said NATO attacks hit seven bridges providing " key lines of communication ", and " yesterday we went after the nervous system that keeps the Milosevic regime informed and in touch ". He continued, " NATO forces pounded transmission towers and control buildings of the Yugoslav radio relay network in seven different locations ". Remember, in the past, the bridges have been filled with civilian traffic, including refugess, women and children, and the control building was a Serbian television studio where some editors and a make-up girl were previously murdered.
Hopefully, the three POWs, Staff Sargent Christopher J. Stone, Specialist Steven M. Gonzales and Staff Sgt. Andrew A. Ramirez, will be safely out of the undeclared war zone by the time you are reading this. Sadly, there is absolutely no chance that Clinton will stop the targetting of purely civilian locations in Yugoslavia, any time soon.
