Mrs. America?

Previously, married or pregnant women are included in the " new " eligibility qualifications for the Miss America Beauty Pageant?

Now wait just a dog-gone minute here; I must have heard wrong? This is, " The Miss America Beauty Pageant ", after all. This is definately not the Mr. America beauty pageant, nor the Ms. America beauty pageant, though maybe it really has finally become " The Mrs. America Beauty Pageant "!

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Associated Press article by John Curran; where in he wrote, " The board of the Miss America Organization voted last month to drop the 60-year-old requirement that contestants be women who have never been married and never been pregnant. The change takes effect next year ".

This is political correctness gone absolutely mad! The pageant is called " Miss America ", and the traditional meaning of the word " Miss " is ' never been married '; as opposed to the Websters dictionary meaning of " title for an unmarried women ". I just don't understand how the pageant organizers could cave in on a 60 year old tradition and eligibility requirement this way. I bet it is the lawyer-glutted, sue happy world we live in and they are scared that NOW will be joined by the ACLU in filing some socialist lawsuit for discrimination!

Well, you guys out there can probably thank Pageant chief executive Robert L. Beck, who took over last year; and it raises my eyebrow a bit that Leonard C. Horn, the CEO who Beck replaced after 30 years of service, said, " It is totally unnecessary and will ultimately lead to the destruction of the Miss America program ".

This whole thing stinks and reminds me of the way some commie lawyer ruled that the Boy Scouts of America had to allow homosexual scoutmasters ( sort of like letting the fox guard the henhouse or the kids watch the candy shop ). I assume this lowering of moral standards for a crowned Miss America will cause a smaller number of women to apply, as Miss America was always considered a fine role model and not just the women who won the pageant!

Next, they will be allowing married, transexuals or transvestittes to participate? Oh; that's the Junior Miss America Pagent huh? I stand corrected, not!
