*LOST*
The Mars Climate Orbiter seems to have gone the way of the failed Mars Observer Mission of August 1993. Both of these NASA probes have been lost, just at the time they were to be in place to begin their planned missions of planetary investigation. It is being reported that at the time the robot probe was readying itself to fire its main engine, all contact was lost, and like the failed MOM mission, maybe never to be heard from again! Media outlets called this newest failure " embarassing ", and pointed to " bad workmanship and poor management oversight " as possible causes to both losses in space. I would point out to them, that the Mars Global Surveyor entered orbit in 1997 and is still functioning and the July 4th celebrationary Mars Pathfinder in 1997 was a resounding success. I had a great barbecue that day with folks watching the big screen television in awe of the diminutive Sojourner mini-rover sending back photographs presumably from the actual Martian surface! The Mars Climate Orbiter was planned to be the first of two new Earthy visitors to the Red Planet, with NASA's Mars Polar Lander scheduled to soft land at the Martian South Pole December 3rd.
*SPACED*
Bill Clinton and his DNC, White House cronies; CNN and FOX network(s).
Bill Clinton took his dog and cronie show to the lawn outside the White House with a veto party, for the budget which passed the Congress recently. This guy is so shameless that he orchestrates everything in a " Wag The Dog " like manner designed to score some imaginary political poll ( giggle ) points. He lied about everything from saving Social Security and Medicare, to not raising taxes, in his own pathetic puny plan which ignores reality and declares a surplus before one actually takes place. It almost made me as ill as his little post Impeachment party with Al " Bill Clinton is one of the greatest presidents in history " Gore as dogmaster of ceremonies!
The Republicans want to keep the Social Security Trust Fund off the budget in a ' lock-box ', but Clinton vetoed that? Clinton vetoed: 1) abolishing the marriage penalty, 2) abolishing the inheritance tax and 3) isolating the Social Security Trust Fund so it couldn't be raided. Clinton called the bill. " too big " and " too bloated ". Strangely, this was what the Democrat controlled Congress was like! Amazingly, Clinton called for tax increases, including a higher cigarette tax?
The Republican response was more rooted in reality.
Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott ( R ) said, " We have an opportunity to restrain the growth of government and pay down the debt. I regret the President has stolen this tax cut from the working families of America ".
Speaker of The House Dennis Hastert ( R ) said, " It is a sad day in America. You shouldn't have to pay extra ( taxes )... if you are married. We will not give up on tax relief for the American people ". He continued, " The President's tax bill raises taxes...we are not going to do that ", noting that the Republican Congress and the Clinton White House have a " difference in philosophy "!
Representitive J.C. Watts ( R ) parroted, " It's a sad day...for single moms out there ". " The President turns his back on those who need tax relief, the poor. Shame on you, Mister President ".
CNN covered Clinton spinning ( lying ) hot and heavy; villifying the Republicans as cutting everything from A to Z, with a misleading speech on the grass outside the White House ( I wonder how much of that he has been smoking lately? ). Funny, during the Republican response, CNN cut off the coverage of the three Republicans addressing Clinton's blatant and direct lies, as soon as Representitive J.C. Watts took the microphone, but didn't as much as offer a peep while the Campaigner-in-chief was flapping his jowls. This was reminiscent of Tom Brokaw ( if I remember correctly ) talking over J.C. Watts' speech, during coverage of the last Republican convention. I guess the lefties just can't take the sight of a black man telling it like it is, in a conservative political manner! The FOX Network didn't cover the Republican reaction at all, but afterwards, it did have White House Counsel, Ann Lewis, on for as long as she could spin ( lie ) about her precious confessed Liar-in-chief's wonderful budget ideas and attack the Republican oppostion, or until the length of her quickly growing nose became too obviously Pinnochio-like for them to conceal! Later, FOX's Sheppard " I opine and you disregard " Smith even described Clinton's veto of the budget laughingly as being " squashed like a bug ". Now, there is some objective reporting!
Hopefully, NASA will be batting .500 and the Polar Lander will survive touch down; and Bill Clinton will come to his senses and stop playing partisan politics with our hard-earner tax dollars? I smell 50% for Bongo!
