The Senate Democrats have finally ceased defending Clinton on the facts and begun to attack the motives of the investigation. The Democrat lap dogs in the Senate had the facts shown to them, and they obviously can now see the President is guilty as charged! Their only defense, no matter how disingenuous it may be, is to attack the prosecution. Shamelessly the Democrat authored meely-mouthed censure resolution does not acknowledge anything other than Clinton's public media lies and an improper relationship with Monica Lewinsky. There is no mention of the court proceedings, that the actual articles of impeachment are based upon, in this obviously extra-Constitutional offering?
*Tim Russert ate the press and invited us to ' Meet The Rest '. After playing Henry Hyde and speak, he answered the question of why continue the Senate trial and call witnesses, when there don't seem to be the votes to convict? Hyde's answer was simple, " duty ". This is a term which most Democrats seem to have forgotten the meaning of! Russert quoted the 60+ percent job approval rating for Clinton in the latest polling; also at 60+ were is Bill Clinton a ( 1 ) liar, ( 2 ) immoral and ( 3 ) a bad role model!
Finding last Sunday's six pack not enough, Russert had eight Senators on his Sunday School Panel.
1) Tom Harkin ( D ) whined about Kenneth Starr, the investigation and the conduct of the House of Representitives as somehow corrupt. He seemed to think Senate Democrats were in the unique situation to save the respect of the Senate with a motion to dismiss the impeachment court, " protect the integrity of the impeachment process ". He and his blindly obedient DNC lackies are the danger to the republic! He finished with, " I don't believe the Senate has the Constitutional right to censure the President ".
2) Fritz Hollins ( D ) thought the " political charade should be dismissed ", calling the investigation " Starr's partisan harassment ", and the House voting out articles of impeachment a " misuse of the impeachment clause ". Heeling befor his Presidential master, Hollins concluded, " The economy is good. We are the ones causing the trouble. " Okay man, you might as well get ' DNC FOREVER ' tatooed on your forehead!
3) Gordon Smith ( R ) believed there are " serious felonies charged " and the Republicans are on the " side of doing impartial justice to render an honorable verdict ". He finished with, " The real damage to our country is it has poisoned our court...our kids ".
4) Carl Levin ( D ) whined about the investigation as an " intrusion of Kenneth Starr ". He urged the DNC mantra of a " vote on a censure alternative ".
5) Olympia Snowe ( R ) felt " the need to bring this trial to a conclusion ", but that it " can't turn out to be the Jerry Springer show ". She concluded with, " the President deliberately lied...the President directly lied ".
6) Patty Murray ( D ) was " troubled by what he ( Clinton ) did ", but thought " The House Managers have not made a good case on perjury and obstruction of justice ". She joined the Democrat dog show mantra contest, whining significantly about the unfairness of the investigation and supporting a censure motion.
7) Larry Craig ( R ) opined that on Monday " there will be a motion to dismiss and it will fail ". He didn't want the process to turn into " partisan melee ", but to have a " vote up or down ". He said a censure motion was uncalled for, even if it included language like " Bill Clinton is a nasty, bad, naughty boy ". He ended with something I think we all feel, " Nixon resigned, but this President stuffs it into our faces! "
8) Slade Gorton ( R ) hoped the Senate could " do impartial justice ". He wants to " reach a conclusion that takes us to a vote of guilty or not guilty ". He stated, " I have enough evidence before me to listen to closing arguements and go to a final vote ".
*On ' Evans and Novak ', Senator Pete Domenici ( R ) thought the Senate should have a " vote up or down ". He added, " There is some enormous intrepidation of calling witnesses by the Whitehouse ". Shown polling data on who the public trusts best on certain subjects the answers were very interesting. I could understand all the pollaganda results except the one where the President was trusted more on the issue of taxes than the GOP, by the now familiar 60+ percent. I believe this clearly indicates the fictitious nature of the poll results! Everyone, even my two hunting dogs ( okay so they may be smarter than average breeds ), knows the Republicans have always stood for lower taxes, and the Democrats tax and spend?
*'Defacing the situation ', Senator Christopher Dodd ( D ) called the House Managers a " side show " and thought they " ran the risk of shattering bipartisanship ". Senator Susan Collins ( R ) thought there should be " limited witnesses with limited testimony " and " separate votes on the facts and removal ". Senator John Breaux ( D ) wanted to offer a " motion to dismiss plus " on Monday, putting censure language into Robert Byrd's expected offering. Senator Orrin Hatch ( R ) wants a " vote on the facts, then a vote on removal ". Man, the Democrats are really running scared at the thought of hearing witnesses in the Senate with the people able to see the lies of the DNC and Whitehouse exposed for what they really are ( and, ofcourse the partisan Democrat Senators exposed as well )!
*Ignoring the love-fest between Wolf Blitzer and the extreme Democrat spinmeister/liar Lanny Davis, I managed to watch what ' condition Wolf's sedition ' was in, to listen to four Senators! Phil Gramm ( R ) thought there was " no foundation in the Democrat arguement that House Managers have engaged in improper conduct ". He opined that this suggestion was a " partisan move by Democrats " and " don't short circuit a Constitutional process ". John Kerry ( D ) showed his impecable DNC/Whitehouse obedience training and his partisan comments were even shocking to me! Kerry found it " shocking and negligent " that " the House reaches out to a witness " and he called it a " fishing expedition ". He did have an opinion that seemed to be his own, " don't mix censure with dismissal " ( this was not the expected DNC mantra of the day ). John Chafee ( R ) answered on House Managers talking to witnesses, " I have a hard time understanding what is all the fuss about ". John Breaux ( D ) understandably repeated the Whitehouse/DNC mantra of " motion to dismiss with a censure ingredient ".
*On ' This Week's Freaks ', some legislators offered their opinions. House Managers Bill McCollum and Lindsey Graham made the case for calling some witnesses, asking the rhetorical question of " what are they ( all Democrats ) so afraid of "? Senator Richard Shelby ( R ) said, " A lot of us would like to hear the arguements...vote on it up or down ". Senator Robert Torricelli ( D ) still showing the results of years of House Democrat obedience training whined about the investigation and finally opined, " the President is going to be acquitted on a bipartisan vote by a wide margin ".
I thought the action would be quite a bit more hot and heavy, but the Democrats are so obviously fearful of, and that, witnesses will be called, they are only quietly repeating their Whitehouse/DNC/Bill Clinton forever mantras!
