Getting Juvenile With Crime?

June 17th, The House of Representitives debates HR.1501, The Consequences for Juvenile Offenders Act ( The Juvenile Crime Bill )

I hate the way the Democrats just sully the dead children from Columbine High School the way they do, by using the event as a political football to appease the gun control lobby. The House Republicans had the guts to separate the cannon fodder from the small amount of positive legislation which could be passed, that may have effected a Littleton-like situation. We won't go into how guilty as heck the the two minors and their two adult accomplices, who illegally supplied the firearms, are ( were/may be ). The House Republicans didn't cave in quite as completely, or in lock-step, as their counterparts in the Senate did. They split the Senate legislation into two parts, severing the ludicrous politically correct phantom draconian gun control measures covering gun shows, from those directed specifically toward some form of juvenile crime or the prevention there of.

" It's the guns ", salivated Representitive Robert Wexler ( D ), with the usual white spittle collecting at the corners of his mouth. I found this quite curious, as the Gun Show Bill was scheduled to come up tomorrow? He finished his rantingly rabid-dog routine with a momentary lapse of sanity, preaching like a Republican, " Moms and dads acorss the country have to spend more time with their kids ". Wow, no bullshit, man?

*During the debate on the Wamp of Tennessee Amendment: Labels on Video Games, Representitive Zach Wamp ( R ) said, " Our kids are being filled with poison ". He questioned, " Our food has labels on it, why not the video games "? John Conyers ( D ) had to try to rain on his parade with, " I wish you could have brought this to the Judiciary Committee. We could have hearings on this ". Just like a Democrat, he wants to involve as many people and as much time as possible. He was to be rewarded, as the vote against passage was overwhelming.

Personally, I believe the game manufacturers have been allowed to police themselves with voluntary ratings on the boxes for too long, so why not make it official? It's just a label, after all. I mean the kids will really know which ones are cool!

*They also debated an amendment entitled Classroom Discipline ( I say, " in a sue-happy world " ). Ed Bryant ( R ) called our society a, " culture of violence ". Bryant just about summed up the degrading social situation since the fifties, with, " I believe that after the failed feel good liberal social programs of the seventies and eighties, giving more and more legal rights to minors and taking final responsibility from the parents and laying it on the federal government; this unsuccessful experiment must be put to rest and the discipline of the fifties returned to our schools ". Tom DeLay ( R ) added very sarcastically, " It doesn't take a village to raise a child; it takes a caring mother and father " ( if you don't get it; there isn't much hope ).

The final tally on HR. 1501 was overwhelmingly for passage; by a vote of 287 to 139.

*Debate beginning late Thursday and resuming Friday until a final vote, on HR.2122: The Mandatory Gun Show Background Check Act was spirited yet worthless. The big deal was John Dingell's ( D ) amendment limiting the time of the instant background check to twenty-four hours. This steamed the liberals to no end, though better than one third of their ranks voted for it!

John Conyers ( D ) offered up the Democrat substitute ( man, I would be really embarassed always having to subsitute all the time ). He sheepishly called it the Conyers/Campbell substitute, because weenie Tom Campbell ( R ) caved in to support it. Referring to the Dingell Amendment, Gregg Ganske ( R ) said, " What was passed last night was not an improvement "; it " weakens the law ". Barbara Lee ( D ) cried over her spilled milk with, " This has been a shame ". Joseph Crowley ( D ) continued the cave-in to the gun control lobby, with, " We have become the water carrier for the NRA ". Oh, I don't think so Joe. You have proven that you are the water carrier for Handgun Control Inc., who have banning all handguns written directly in to their official charter.

As you can see, the issue of gun control ( or playing to temporary political correctness ) transcends the party. Henry Hyde ( R ) firmly began, " Nobody gets everything they want in a bill...get it to conference, where the real work begins ". He rhetorically questioned, " Or would you rather demonize your opponent ". He cautioned, " We shouldn't vote party line ". He then specifically commented, " Conyers ( the substitute ) denies the increased penalty for an adult who furnishes a gun to a minor ". He finished with a pledge, " Those people who responsibly use guns, are entitled to their rights too ". J.C. Watts ( R ) put forth his open-eyed view, " It's not ' how ' these kids are doing these things; it's ' why ' ".

HR.2122 failed miserably by a two-to-one margin.

Later, after the final votes, Senator Barbar Boxer ( D ) of the Czechslofornia bobsy twins had to comment in her own sickeningly far left-wing way, " They admitted they raped the legislation ". She then got into fantasyland with, " I have no problem with the NRA saying what they their views are ", but " forty-eight percent of the guns sold at these shows go to criminals ". That is absolutely the most ludicrous knee-jerl liberal lie, I have ever heard!

Clinton couldn't resist buying into the commentary, to demonize supporters of the second amendment, ofcourse; saying, " Once again the majority in the House has said we don't care what's necessary to protect our children ".

That's some pretty tastey stuff. I was impressed with the way the House Republicans separated the gun control measures from the juvenile crime. Now, if they could only just figure out a way to force the Clinton Department of Justice to enforce the laws that the 105th Congress passed already?
