It is being reported ( last Thursday the 16th ) that in a recent poll of French Junior High School students, American astronaut Neil Armstrong managed to beat out French General Charles DeGualle as their person of the century. Well, at least someone on Planet Earth has a brain remaining!
I was really disgusted last year when Democrat Senator John Glenn got all the press and was heralded as the greatest American hero astronaut since Captain James T. Kirk. Alan Shepherd was the first American into space, not Glenn; the Russians claiming first human being into space and the first human in orbit. I would assert that Shepherd will be remembered in history as an American space hero, while Glenn will be rememberd for his deep involvement in the Keating Five scandal and his blatant whitewash of Democrat involvement in the Senate camapign finance abuse investigation, held by Republican Fred Thompson. Glenn's silly return to space, was an obvious payback for his meritorious service in defending his precious philandering President, no matter how clear it was to everyone that he was lying through his teeth and/or covering up the truth!
I detailed how I felt about the quid pro quo between Glenn and Clinton at: The Wrong Stuff? ( 10-23-98 ) .
Okay, so less than one thousand children were polled and no margin of error was reported, but it still warmed my heart to see Neil Armstrong get the nod as someone's ' Person of The Century ', as he sure is mine!
