Just like the Serb SAM that didn't hit it's target yesterday, the NATO bombing is failing to achieve any visible results. Oh, unless you count stirring up huge amounts of unrest and anti-NATO ( especially anti-United States ) sentiment through out the world! Amid demonstrations in neighboring Macedonia and civilian protests in Moscow at the U.S. embassy, these airstrikes continue. Didn't our beloved ' fearless leader/ dog wagger ' Bill Clinton, say we were acting along with NATO to stop a wider war? It certainly seems to me like we are breeding a wider conflict and not qwelling it! Following Yugoslavia's suit in throwing out international journalists, Russia has now expelled any reporters from NATO alliance countries.
Beside these violent anti-NATO/U.S. demonstrations in Macedonia and Russia, two NATO countries, Italy and Greece, came out publicly to express some misgivings with the alliance's current course of military action. These vocal expressions were quickly quieted ( by whom? ).
Though supporting our troops in the field, many United States legislators have expressed their own concerns for the motivation behind these attacks and our eventual courses of action, should Yugoslavia fail to knuckle under to NATO. The conditions for the cessation of the aerial bombardment don't seem to be clear. One day it seemed like Milosevic had to sign some peace aggreement, but then it changes to just stop attacking Kosovo? This cloudiness of the real mission can only make people question the resolve of NATO in seeing this through to the end.
While the President makes emotional speeches ala' " Wag The Dog ", invoking the images of World War One, World War Two and Adolf Hitler, it is beginning to become alarmingly clear that these reasons ( or rationalizations ) are only excuses to hide the real ( hidden ) agenda! This hidden agenda may be quite sinister or some what innocent, though still ' socialist ' in nature ( as in Bill Clinton's precious " New World Order "! ).
First, the possibly sinister motive(s), in acting at this time ( and we all know timing is everything ): To take the heat off, 1) Clinton personally for looking the other way while the Red Chinese spied on us during his current Whitehouse administration, 2) the possibly treasonous sale of sensitive nuclear technology to The People's Republic of China for DNC campaign contributions and 3) the allegations of rape by Juanita Broaddrick. A triple treat for the conspiracy obsessed!
Second, the less sinister hidden motives or agendas may be ( or include ): 1) Clinton's wishes to create a world goverment based on Fabian socialist ideals, 2) some sort of payback for foreign support of Clinton's presidency personally while his impeachment proceedings were under way, and 3) just a plain blunder by a president ignorant of world politics!
Senator Rick Santorum ( R ) had an interesting take on the initial motivations for the current NATO actions. He thought the problem was born out of the refugees. He said the neighboring countries don't want these displaced civilians " pouring across their borders ". He then continued, " they want us to bail them out ". Okay, so we are supposed to open wide and allow the displaced Kosovo Albanians to settle here in the good old USA? On Clinton invoking every negative image from World War One and World War Two, including Adolf Hitler the holocaust he said, " This is not the same world it was in 1915 ". On Yugoslavia seemingly not putting up any defense, Santorum believed that Milosevic is playing a waiting game, taking the example of Saddam Hussein and Iraq to heart. He believes that Milosevic thinks, " we will go so far, but we won't make the ultimate committement ". Santorum believes this tactic of waiting us out " is why he hasn't used his SAMs "!
Senator Bob Smith ( R ), a declared GOP presidential candidate, thought Jesse Helms had a good idea for providing funding for a democratic government to be formed in Yugoslavia or Kosovo. On the current policy, Smith thought, " the policy is confused, with no exit strategy ". He wasn't too happy with the perception that Clinton is using our nation's miltary as his ( Clinton's ) personal police force saying, " The miltary is not meant to be a 911 response force "!
Congressman Curt Weldon ( R ), chairman of the House Armed Services Committe, thought what we are doing is " too little, too late ". He said, " We should have brought Russia in, we have great leverage with Russia ". In closing, he said, " The administration has made a big mistake ". The future will tell us just how big this mistake really is!
Joe Lockhart dropped his own dud bomb at the White House briefing on the Kosovo crisis today, as he refused to comment on other much more vicious, numerically far greater and wide spread instances of genocide or ethnic cleansing in places like Tibet or Africa. His answer was, " I don't have time for that. And you can put that in your report ". Whoa, what a rude SOB, that Lock(f)art can be! Obviously, he would never say anything bad about the totalitarian communist dictatorship in the People's Republic of China, because the Red Chinese are one of his fearless leader's biggest supporters and contributors of cold hard cash to his beloved, though morally bankrupt political party ( suitable for immediate deposit to Bill Clinton's secret Swiss bank account, as well )!
James Rubin wasn't really very much better than his White House briefing cousin, in loosing his version of an UXB at his State Department briefing today. He doesn't lie as blatantly or as well as Lockhart, but he said of NATO launching their attacks, " you can't go around threatening without carrying it out ". He further said on the non-cooperation of the Kremlin, " We couldn't stand by and let the aggression continue just because the Russians didn't come on board ". This guy has really internalized the Whitehouse talking points memo/fax! He gave some disjointed illogical rambling rationalization of why Russian Minister Primakov turned around and flew back to Russia, instead of continuing on to Washington D.C., on the eve of the NATO action! In essense, this was because he ( Primakov ) didn't want to be here when hostilities began. Maybe, it really was the thought of spending some quality time with the ultra-boring Al Gore, that caused him to turn back? Rubin touched upon the Serbian authorities using their media propaganda machine; this is one subject the Clinton administration is quite familiar with ( using propaganda, that is )!
Now it is being reported that two Yugoslav Migs were shot down over Bosnia and not Kosovo. Could this incursion over Bosnia be the precursor of the wider war Clinton promised he was trying to stop?
This administration is down right disgraceful, in it's handling of the current concocked crisis. One could think that they would ( or could ) be a little more civil, while they inch us even closer to a possible World War Three type of situation, as the turn of the millennium approaches!
