The Democrat's main mantra was familiar. Investigate the investigation ( OIC ), and not the object ( Bill Clinton ).
Tom Barrett, Bill Delahunt, and Robert Torricelli chanted it almost word for word.
Another Democrat mantra was also familiar. Even if all the allegations of misconduct against the President are true, the conduct only supports censure, and not impeachment.
Vic Fazio, Lee Hamilton, and Robert Torricelli chanted this one effectively.
William Safire debunked this one ( one branch of government cannot Constitutionally levy on another ), and urged for an up or down vote, on impeachment.
The Republicans had their own mantra. Clinton has been AWOL from Washington for over 100 fund raising events.
Dick Armey, Orrin Hatch, and Trent Lott had this one down pretty good. Though, admittedly, this mantra doesn't have to do with the impeachment debate, but passing the final budget for the year. This may indicate that Republicans are not as obsessed with the impeachment proceedings, as the Democrats would have you believe? Airforce One, where are you?
Lindsay Graham and Asa Hutchinson didn't chant the mantra, and they were a little more imaginative. Orrin Hatch mentioned that Clinton should settle the Paula Jones case and confront the Kathleen Willey affair.
Greg Craig ( don't you just love this guy? ), Clinton's new lawyer, does not admitt that the President did anything wrong? He also said he has only had one meeting with Hillary ( probably dozens of phone calls ).
Everyone was in aggreement on one issue. They all would support Clinton, on any NATO action in the Kosovo situation.
My only observation for the day:
After arguing for a quick and closed-ended inquiry; the Democrats certainly seem to want to call a large number of witnessess, before the committee? Stone walling? Preview of the extent to wish Democrats will go, in defense of the indefensible? A real search for the truth? You make the call...
