Curb Those Dogs!

After three days of NATO bombing Yugoslavia, President Bill Clinton officially invoked the War Powers Act.

With Bill Clinton invoking the War Powers Act, which allows the President to order United States military action without Congressional approval, the diversity of opinions on the effect of the air strikes so far, is widely different!

Funny, Bill Clinton may have even created a Gulf of Tonkin-like incident for himself, with an alleged aerial incursion by Serbian Migs into Bosnia today. Allegedly, two out of three of these Mig 29s ( yeah right ) were downed by NATO fighters, with the third running away back to Belgrade. I saw some fuzzy video footage that was ' supposedly ' pieces of one of the Migs that was ' supposedly ' shot down, playing on a vast majority of the American television stations, both cable and broadcast. These could only have been Russian made aircraft, if the Russians are starting to stencil instructions in English on them!

*Madeleine Albright went before the television cameras, having and even videotaped a Serbian language address to the Serbs in Belgrade, and tried to explain the administration's position. Remember her? She is the one who stood out from the rest of Clinton's Cabinet and blatantly lied for the President about the Monica Lewinsky affair. I find that I can't trust what she says anymore; she should have resigned as Secretary of State back in 1998!

*Dick Morris, former White House pollster, on why the attention is being placed on Kosovo, " When it ( genocide or ethnic cleansing ) happens in Africa and Cambodia, the American people don't give a damn ". This sounds pretty racist but it may not be far from the truth!

*Scott Ritter, former UNSCOM weapons inspector, who worked in Iraq. " We blustered through one foreign policy blunder to another ". " By bombing him ( Milosevic ), we have turned him into a sympathetic character ". " It's the politicians we have to hold accountable ". " We have no monitors in Kosovo, the Serbs are free to run rampant ". Perhaps his best insight was on our military losing it's high level of readiness by too many deployments. He said that by constantly deploying the United States military over seas, " this administration is doing a tremendous disservice to our national security ".

*Vladislav Javanovic, Yugoslav Charge D'Affaires to the United Nations, when asked about NATO's claim of downing two Yugoslavian Migs, said the Serbs never sent any Migs over Bosnia and the " incident never happened ". Maybe they were Su 27s and not Mig 29s?

*Sergey Lavrov, Russian official thought " diplomatic measures were not exhausted " and was " profoundly outraged at NATO's actions ".

*Kenneth Bacon, Pentagon Spokesman: " It makes it harder to find them ( SAM and radar sites ), if they are not turned on ". On if he thinks Milosevic is trying to lull NATO pilots into a false sense of security by not firing SAMs, " He is one tricky dude ". I could hardly believe that one when I heard it!

*Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia: " The media has been completely shut down and he ( Milosevic ) is more powerful now ( after the air strikes have begun ) ".

*Peter Galbraith, Former United States Ambassador to Croatia: " It's ( the Serbian ethnic cleansing? ) not going to spill over into Greece and Turkey ".

*Jim Maceda, NBC News Belgrade, Yugoslavia: He thought the NATO bombing was " strengthening the resolve of the Yugoslavian people...working in his ( Milosevic's ) favor ".

*David Hartsough, Peaceworkers Organization: " They ( the Serbs ) are capable of a lot of violence ". He wanted NATO to " ask The Hague to arrest Milosevic ".

*Alan Keyes, former Ambassador, GOP presidential candidate and now radio talkshow host. " The introduction of U.S. ground troops has been the plan all along...we have been lied to ".

*Senator John McCain ( R ) was highly vocal in his support of the troops but critical of the Clinton administration in regards to Red China, North Korea and Iraq ( as well as in Kosovo ). He said, " I still don't have the confidence I would like to have, in this administration's ability to handle complex problems ".

What may have been the only amusing thing to see today, was Serbian television in Belgrade playing a subtitled version of the movie " Wag The Dog " as the bombs were falling!
