As proof positive that the NATO bombing has accelerated whatever military action was happening on the ground, the Serbian military announced a partial pullout of troops from Kosovo. It was being reported as a pullback of troops, both army and police, because they had completed their operations in Kosovo, against Albanian separatist rebels ( terrorists ) there. The Yugoslavian authorities reportedly said the withdrawal order went into effect Sunday night. We don't know yet if Milosevic has caved in to the criminal NATO alliance, or his troops have finished qwelling the Albanian separatist uprising.
Jamie Shea was quick as a shark, to smell Serbian blood in the water, and responded with, " If President Milosevic has indeed ordered a withdrawal of his troops, this would be proof NATO's air operations are biting and that Belgrade is feeling the effects ". Secretary of Hate Madeleine Albright couldn't resist the opportunity to act like the mean mom, saying " If ever there was a definition of a half-measure, this is it ".
While the air-raid sirens wail in Belgrade, Yugoslavia is accusing the ten NATO countries involved in the bombing, of genocide, at the United Nations International Court of Justice at The Hague, in the Netherlands. The countries include: Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, The United States. The two day hearing began yesterday with Rodoljub Etinski, " The acts of bombing of the territory of Yugoslavia are not just illegal acts, they constitute a crime against peace and also the crime of genocide ". If you think that was good, check out how he wrapped up his statement, " The case before you is clear, stop the killing, save lives of all Yugoslav citizens, Serbs and Albanians, civilians and soldiers. Save the whole nation and all its communities. Don't be late ". Nice, huh? They claimed that attacking petroleum and chemical installations endangers the whole country, and thus constitutes the crime of genocide. Also they claimed NATO was using banned weapons like cluster bombs and bombs containing depleted uranium and mercury. At one point, Etinski said the bombing constituted " merciless and savage bombing of the civilian population ", and " by killing people, by murdering children...by destroying a whole nation, they want to protect a part of that population, one of its numerous ethnic minorities ".
NATO got to argue their case, as Canadian Philippe Kirsch exaggerated, " The repression carried out by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia...ranks among the worst crimes against humanity this century has seen ". Wow, he must be taking lessons from the White House spinmeisters.
While students riot in front of the United States embassy in Beijing over the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, the NATO butcherment of Yugoslavia from the sky continues. Reportedly, riots or demonstrations were also going on in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai. The People's Rupublic of China has asked for a real apology from Washington D.C., but they didn't realize nobody in the Clinton White House is capable of making one. Every one of Clinton's pseudo-apologies have contained rationalizations or trivializations of the matter, and to the Chinese an apology is only accepted if it is sincere. They were always, " I feel regret and we had to do this... ", or, " I am sorry, but... " ( the Devil made me do it? )...it was all just " an isolated tragic mistake ". It is just pityful; shameful. Reportedly, Secretary of Hate Madeleine Albright said NATO would provide China with a full explanation. Oh man, that is like making the Wicked Witch of The West, your number one kindergarten teacher?
Russia was angered and Igor Ivanov called off his trip to Great Britain ( remember, he called off a trip to the United States, too ). Viktor Chernomyrdin still went to Germany, but called the NATO action, " barbaric bombardment ", and " all of us are dispirited ". Boris Yeltsin called the embassy bombing, " a barbarous and inhuman act ". The Associated Press reported that Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations said that NATO was exploiting a humanitarian crisis in Yugoslavia to " destroy the present world order, which is based on international law and the charter of the United Nations ". AP also reported, that the ever popular Saeed Hasan, Iraqi Ambassador to the UN said the attack on the embassy was similar to the " aggression " Iraq was suffering at the hands of Washington, a " pattern of the American behavior which flouts international law and the rights of nations and peoples ". This doesn't look good. Now Clinton has managed to irritate both our new found friends and our old time enemies. He just about undone all the work that Ronald Reagan did to win the Cold War.
You know, it really is a drag that with all the releasing of POWs and pullbacks of troopage by Yugoslavia and the recent Chinese embassy targetting fiasco, that NATO couldn't stop the bombing for long enough to let the dust clear ( or cooler heads prevail ).
