In a blatantly obvious attempt to obstruct and delay the committee proceedings, and to divert the attention to the investigator of the President, a group of Democrat representitives interrupted with frivilous, adversarial motions and requests for points of order. As their sick little game unfolded, it became quite clear that they had scripted this attack before hand. Not looking like the ' fairness cops ' they declared themselves to be, those House Democrats who participated were more like partisan hand puppets, who had been pre-programmed by the Whitehouse. Hopefully, the American public will see through this nonesense, as the DNC clown act that it truely was.
Deputy clown William Delahunt started the partisan attack and apprentice clown Mel Watt finished ( not wanting to be out done ). The Democrats wasted some time and forced a phoney vote on giving the President's lawyer two hours of questioning Starr ( the majority counsel only gets a half an hour ).
Henry Hyde made a civil and subdued opening statement, but chief clown John Conyers launched into an emotional and illogical attack on Kenneth Starr personally. This was a given to anyone who was present and bothered to notice that Conyers had personally invited the media goon, Michael Moore, to the hearings. Moore, who brought his cameras and actors with him ( one man was dressed like Thomas Jefferson ), had been given the equivalent of a back stage pass by Conyers ( proving the actual clown act conspiracy does really exist ). Too bad the only joke around the hearing room is the House Democrats!
The most obvious and rude Democrat clown act attack came from Sheila Jackson Lee ( they must have drawn straws to see who got the pleasure ). She interrupted Kenneth Starr's opening statement twice; the second interruption brought groans from the audience. This proves that these Democrats don't have an ounce of integrity between the group of them. They strive to make a mockery of the hearing ( and justice ), but they only succeed in trivializing themselves and making the Democrats look quite moronic and silly!
After all the bellyaching over time allotment by the Democrats; Minority Counsel Abbe Lowell was given well over an hour of time, while only being promised a half an hour. His questions were all directed toward Starr's integrity and an attack on his credibility. He asked no questions concerning any of the facts in question about the President's conduct. The Majority Counsel David Schippers declined to use his time for this segment.
The Republican questioners were civil and kept to the issue at hand; not so, the Democrats.
John Conyers advanced inuendo and asked questions with ludicrous preconceptions, seemingly inspired by the fantasies of recent liberal lunatic conspiracy nuts.
Barney Frank was completely out of control in asking the most off the wall questions; they had to do with the media leaks of information to the public, and not any facts in the impeachment inquiry. Barney didn't wait for Starr to answer any of his questions, before moving on to the next fictious charge against him. This incredible and apparent rudeness was obvious to all in the gallery! His must have had a few at the lunch break, because he began to make snide comments over some of Starr's answers, to other questioners inquiries. I guess being wired for sound ( yes, it is reported that he really was ) makes Barney a bit more sarcastic?
Charles Schumer, with white spittle collecting in the corners of his mouth, acted like the rabid attack dog he is ( I feel sorry for the people of the state of New York who elected him ). He was just as rude to Starr as Barney Frank, and talked over Starr's answers to his Whitehouse programmed questions, interjecting his own bizarre theories and extreme defense of Bill Clinton, in a loud obnoxious manner!
Jerrold Nadler continued the Democrat questioning about Starr's conduct and not the facts concerning the inquiry of the President. He accused Starr of criminal conduct, as a premise to his five minute litany/question concerning the possibility that Starr deprived Monica Lewinsky of the right to counsel.
Bobby Scott went on and on about Starr's possible prosecutorial misconduct and conflicts of interest, instead of addressing any facts. He also read from his prepared sheet of paper, about all the knee jerk liberals who think what Clinton did wasn't impeachable conduct. Did he ask any questions? It was more like the verbalization of the sound a toilet makes, when just at the end of flushing!
Zoe Lofgren continued to read off the official Whitehouse/DNC talking points sheet, perceptively continuing right where Bobby Scott left off. It was laughable, she just read the whole time, really! She, with Barney Frank butting in over Starr's voice, continued to read the prepared attack paper, without letting Starr answer!
Maxine Waters was no surprise. Things that flew out of her mouth included: " gross unfairness ", " tactics that have been used were unacceptable ",and " tobacco companies ". She accused Starr of some kind of abuse of power in dealing with witnesses ( Hyde gave her way too much extra time ). After the dinner break, she actually insinuated that she wanted Ken Starr charged with perjury; that's right, no fooling. Hyde would not let her get the " Wicked Witch of The West " act in full swing!
Democrats who engaged in undecipherable questioning/trashing of Ken Starr, instead of trying to address any of the facts included: Mel Watt, Sheila Jackson Lee ( another reader ), Marty Meehan ( really told some whoppers, sounded like a bad campaign ad ), William Delahunt ( putting his red nose on again ), Robert ' more white stuff than Schumer, around the corners of his mouth ' Wexler ( still another reader ), Steve Rothman ( even still another reader, not even the hint of a question ), and Tom Barrett.
Amazingly, one Democrat seemed to have had his rabies shot, before the hearing. Rick Boucher asked a series of legitimate questions, about prosecuting the President after he leaves office, for perjury.
Republican Charles Canady characterized the combined Democrat effort to attack Starr instead of the facts as " desperate " and " drive-by questioning ". Bob Barr called it " nonsense ". Chris Cannon said the Democrats " whiffed " and engaged in " follow-up interruption ".
At the dinner break, Democrats ( like Jerrold Nadler ) took the opportunity to step up to the C-Span microphone and play fast and loose with the truth ( including what Starr had just testified too? ). Who are these guys trying to kid? They have really lost all touch with reality!
After the dinner break, President Clinton's Attorney David Kendall spent over an hour making dubious claims about Starr's conduct and ignoring the President's conduct. He did say one comment about the President's conduct not reaching the level of impeachment. The only new point he did make, though still about Starr, was the lack of actual physical contact between Starr and a great many of the witnesses ( for what that's worth ).
Majority Counsel David Schippers finally took some time and cleared up some loose ends. Starr has engaged in no questionable conduct and all the OIC Impeachment Referral charges are completely unrebutted!
There was at least one Whitehouse minion member of the vast left wing conspiracy handing out an anti-Starr propaganda leaflet in the halls of Congress near the hearing. He was probably glad to hear Starr declare; there was no information directly connecting the President to the scandals known as Filegate and Travelgate, though both investigations are only just closing. Whitewater was not mentioned. The one thing I know for sure, is that the Democrats have no gripe about getting enough time for questioning.
Ken Starr left to a standing ovation!
