One would have thought that the Democrat partisan tactics ordered by the White House would have been less evident, in a hearing where only the chairmen and ranking members of the four committees were in attendence. It was just the opposite; as the Democrats followed their Clinton/DNC/Whitehouse spinmeister orders like the good dogs they are. Sadly, the Republicans whose FBI files were included in the one thousand misappropriated by the Clinton smear-job crew, were mute on taking the current corrupt administration to task. Even Fred Thompson ( R ) was somewhat muzzled, leaving only James Inhofe ( R ) left to speak the awful truth to the American people!
Jeff Bingaman ( D ) downplayed the whole thing, calling most of the accusations " exaggerations "?
Carl Levin ( D ) got the Pinocchio award, stressing that the espionage " began twenty years ago " and the Clinton dynasty was finally doing something about it? Come...sit...stay;...good dog!
Fred Thompson ( R ), with an invisible muzzle on, said, " How difficult change is. This secretary is doing things, but is it enough "? He did show a small bit of spinal rigidity, finally, with, " Anything approaching a bandaid approach would be a mistake. Something fundamental is going to have to be done ".
Joseph Lieberman ( D ) was " disappointed, troubled and angered ". Yeah, right, sure, whatever. He thought there should be some " serious rethinking about how the Department of Energy is organized ". Personally, I think they should abolish the corrupt Energy Department and put the labs under the Department of Defense. Showing his White House obedience training was truely complete, he wanted to make sure we didn't, " in our haste, do the wrong thing ". Huh? What's the ' wrong thing '? Is it, ' holding the Clintons responsible for the secrets given ( sold? ) to the People's Republic of China for dirty DNC campaign money ( bribes? ) '?
Bill Richardson arrogantly announced, " We have already undertaken sweeping reform ". The then parroted the same identical sentence, substituting " dramatic " for " sweeping ". Okay, this guy was not head of DOE when the Legacy Codes were sold ( stolen? ) to the People's Liberation Army, but I still don't trust him, as he lies way too easily and Clinton has used him in too many appointed positions, to be taken as anything more than a loyal DNC-forever partisan political hack!
Warren Rudman, the designated drivel driver, chronicled abuses in an arrogant total lack of security at the labs by DOE people. He said there was a " culture of arrogance...in this department ". His lame fix for the problem is creating an undersecretary for nuclear stewardship. Personally, I still don't understand why the outdated DOE is kept active?
Richard Shelby ( R ) asked Rudman, " Richardson said ' Americans can be assured that our secrets are safe today ', is that true "? Rudman answered, " I don't think he agrees with that statement now ". Oh man, this just illustrates how much of a Clinton lapdog Richardson is!
Pete Domenici ( R ) said, " The Department of Energy has become bloated in twenty-five years ". He offered up some solid criticism, with, " I submitt that you cannot fix this problem by leaving DOE with jurisdiction over the labs ". Okay, there may be some backbone still happening here!
James Inhofe ( R ) didn't mince words, saying, " While I have enjoyed this love-in, I think we failed to address the problem...White House spin ". He made four points:
1) " It is not so important when it happened, as when it was discovered ".
2) " The theft of the Legacy Codes happened during the Clinton administration ". He then listed three secrets; " compromise of advanced EMP ( electro-magnetic pulse ) weapons ", " ICBM nose-cone technology ", and " space-based radar to detect submarines "; all stolen ( or purchased? ) by to the Red Chinese during the current administration.
3) " This administration relaxed the safeguards ". He mentioned past Energy Secretary Hazel O'Leary and her changing the security " colored badges...they claimed they were discriminatory ".
4) " The President knew of these security breaches and kept them from Congress "! That is the scary one...
Rudman reacted as ordered by Clinton, " You all deserve some blame ". He tried to rationalize his soft report with this sheepish bleat, " We criticize the President for acting too slowly ". He finally whined, " People did the best they could ". Man, that is always their excuse and I just am not falling for it any longer!
Richardson puffed, " What I have laid out is pretty clear ". Yeah, it's pretty clear you are a White House lapdog, barking only what your master commands you to!
What a way to enter the next millennium, huh?
