Our military struck targets in Sudan and Afghanistan allegedly associated with the terrorists involved in the recent embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. These were large attacks, but made up of cruise missiles. Cruise missile strikes are expensive, may only cause pin-prick damage, and may cause further terrorist efforts.
The main terrorist dog target was supposedly the infrastructure of Osama bin Laden. Islamic Fundamentalist terrorist groups will not cease the cowardly attacks, but may even increase these efforts, because of Clinton's tentitive missile attack. True, we did fire off over 100 million dollars worth ( twice what Starr has spent ), but trading these million dollar weapons, for some possibly empty buildings, is not my idea of retribution for the embassy bombing related deaths. Direct confrontation, is the only way to cure this problem of global terrorists. We have to go after them and their bases, not send some anonymous missiles. I can't give you the ultimate answer to the terrorist problem, but I can recognize inadequate measures!
A President who could use a public address billed as an apology, to attack his political enemies; could easily use the military, to puff out his stuffed shirt. A President who could use a Hollywood producer to choreograph a finger wagging direct lie to the public; could use the same choroegraphy, to make the American military use of force, play to his image ( or lack of ). This is really a sad state of affairs.
Clinton's speech about the attack, too closely resembled the one given by the President in " Wag The Dog ", to be ignored. His trip to Martha's Vineyard ( subsequent departure and arrival videos ) was obviously a staged event.
Clinton's Executive Order targeting US businesses and bin Laden personally, was a farce. It's illegal for our companies to do business with terrorists, already ( it would be capitalistic suicide for any company, should the public find out anyhow ). An order written specifically for bin Laden could only be a feather in bin Laden's hat, in regard to other terrorists. His stature in the terrorist community has been raised by Slick Willie's actions in trying to raise his own. He may have made the struggle against terrorism quite public, but it didn't begin, nor will it be ending, this week.
In creating his new national enemy ala' " Wag The Dog ", he has created an new international terrorist celebrity, in Osama bin Laden. Find me someone, the American public can hate...find me something I can blow up...This may blow up in all our faces!
If you liken this week's attacks with World War II, the Japanes would have attacked a USO club in Seattle, instead of Pearl Harbor! Could Clinton's military advisors have been as anxious to mount this attack, as his political advisors probably were? We all know how much the generals like to play with their war toys, but it seems like they may have just raised the ante, and not called, Osama bin Laden's hand!
