Whether you believe it is a ' wag the dog ' routine to take the heat off Bill Clinton for the recently surfacing details that point to his greedy administration allowing sensitive nuclear weapons materials to fall into Red Chinese hands or our duty to stop the Serb aggression, the bombs are finally falling! Comrade Rodent Boris Yelsin of Russia went on international television to let the Serbs know an attack was coming within the hour ( let's see if Clinton calls him again for a heads-up? )! This was not the breach of security that it could have been, as networks were showing B-52s leaving their bases in England in the morning and later reporters announced NATO fighters taking off from Aviano airbase in Italy.
At approximately 2:15PM the President came on television to rationalize his actions in ordering this combined NATO aerial assault. He cites the increasing violence by the Serb military against helpless civilian targets in the Kosovo region, as the reason we had to attack now. He says the cost would become higher, if we waited to act. Clinton said there were three main objectives to today's actions: 1) to reinforce NATO's determination, 2) to prevent an escalation of the conflict, and 3) to degrade the Serbian military forces ability to wage their genocidal war in Kosovo. He promised to say more later tonight! This would presumably be after the raids have ended and he knows if there were any U.S. casualities.
The cowardly Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic cut off international journalists and reporters in Belgrade from their satellite feeds, so information is only coming in via the telephone. The media in Yugoslavia is state owned and operated, so it only broadcasts pure propaganda. Initially, there were reports of explosions in and around the Belgrade area; presumably the targets were military SAM ( surface to air missile ) locations and military barracks. Hopefully, we haven't waited too long to take these actions, as the KLA ( Kosovo Liberation Army ) has been severely mauled over the last several days!
We must support NATO's commander, U.S. General Wesley Clark, in ordering these attacks, whether or not you agree with them. We, as a nation, must remain united behind our military forces involved in this conflict!
