Yesterday, the United States Senate gave William Jefferson Clinton his wanted acquittal on both of the two alleged articles of impeachment sent over for trial by the House of Representitives. This Legislative Branch surrender to the Executive Branch was brought about with the enlistment of House and Senate Democrats to ignore the Constitution!

The House Democrats worked in close cooperation with the Whitehouse in trying to mount a defense for their precious President. They made no attempt at working out findings of fact or even trying to provide an appearence of political cooperation between parties. Their idea of cooperation between parties, was between one party ( The Whitehouse ) and another ( The House Democrats )! House Republicans tried to follow the Constitution and held the hearings by the book.

The Senate was only a slightly different story. After all, the Senators had to each swear an additional oath of ( im ) partiality. The Senate Democrats would prove just how serious they each took their so-called oath of impartiality!

For the most part, the Republicans were steadfast in their following of the Constitution from day one until yesterday. The only defector was Arlen Specter, the newly elected Senator from Scotland (sic). He thought he could weasle out of a vote by declaring " not proven " instead of a real vote? Republicans with names like Chaffe, Collins and Jeffords either voted their minds or made kamikaze-like gestures to the great living God Bill Clinton. Either way, the Republicans showed more individuality in their voting.

The Senate Democrats were just as partisan in ignoring the Constitution as their House counterparts. The only difference between the two, was the Senate Democrats wanted to attempt an appearence of cooperation. They felt that they had to do this, as they each swore an additional oath of impartiality. They obviously didn't care about violating this oath privately, but thought their poll numbers may drop if their unseemly conduct was openly made public. Many of these Democrats privately and some even publicaly, declared Clinton guilty of the articles but not worthy of impeachment. There actually are Democrats out there saying that Bill Clinton was refreshing his memory when he was coaching Betty Currie and not paying attention to Bennett while you could see him nodding with acknowledgement on video tape?

How can Senators like Tom Harkin, Charles Schumer or Patrick Leahy ignore the evidence and vote for acquittal? The answer is that they are just as partisan as the House Democrats. A harder question to answer is why did Democrat Senator Robert Byrd vote acquittal? The answer is that the pressure of party was greater than the pressure of truth, justice and following the Constitution.

Even more disturbing is that after their conspiracy was successful and their fearless leader acquitted, screaming lunatic Democrats like James Carville still feel the need to sick their rabies infected dog show on the innocent left-over prosecutors and witnesses?

Lincoln's Birthday and this Friday in history will be permanently etched into my memory.
