Balking on Sunday?

While the Serbs march into Kosovo, the talking heads march onto Sunday morning television!

*On ' Bleat Don't Rest ', Tim Russert was concerned with the situation in Kosovo and again outraged about the theft or sale of nuclear secrets to the People's Republic of China ( communist Red China ) from our nation's laboratories.

He asked Department of Energy Secretary Bill Richardson about the situation outside Pristina and Richardson replied, " The situation is very grave ". Russert then changed the subject to Red Chinese spying and pointed out that both he and Sandy Berger said there was a problem, but Bill Clinton seemed to say there was no espionage at his recent press conference? Richardson said, " The President was correct, he said the person was not charged ". He then danced around the issue, using such hit words and phrases as, " polygraph ", " tighter security of visits " and " tighter security of email ". When Russert said it seems like an ad'hoc situation with the press dictating policy, Richardson avoided the issue and could only say, " I can assure the public that steps have been taken ". Russert tried to continue pressing him on this and suggested that it all happened because of a New York Times article. Richardson continued to fog the issue and finally whimpered on the actions taken at Los Alamos, " We were about to terminate this individual ". Russert pointed out that in April 1997 the FBI recommended the man be fired, but Richardson replied, " I don't think so "? He went on, " I want to be absolutely sure our security is good at the labs. Hysteria is unfounded ". Doesn't hearing this from him just make you feel so much better about the current administration ( not me )? Russert finally quized him on publishing the currently classified House report. He really danced around and around this one and never even came close to answering! This Clinton administration is a disgrace!

Bob Dole was asked about Kosovo and the coming Republican presidential primaries. When asked if bombing will stop the fighting in Kosovo, he said, " I am not certain, it did bring results in Bosnia. This has become a humanitarian problem ". On the possible loss of American pilots he said, " I think it is rather dangerous, they do have a sophisticated air defense ". On what he saw when he was there, he remarked, " Serb homes still standing with Albanian ones leveled ". On Elizabeth Dole and the presidential campaign he said, " Let's not beat each other up ". On Elizabeth he said, " She has an excellent opportunity ". When asked if he invented anything ( an obvious reference to Al Gore's gaff of claiming responsibility for creating the Internet ) he replied, " I didn't invent anything, but I am going to be living in the White House with the first woman president "!

*On ' Getting Weak with Sam and Cokie ", the first question was from Sam Donaldson on whether " there will be a bombing campaign this week ( against the forces of Milosevic in Yugoslavia )"? Sam played the " one negative " box score remark by Clinton, and they all agreed he seems to have a filter betweeen him and the American people. Sam remarked about how Clinton couldn't answer his ( Donaldson's ) question concerning his possible rape of Juanita Broaddrick!

Senator Don Nickles ( R ) was grilled about his not supporting military action in Kosovo. He said, " I think it is a serious mistake. There is no end game, I don't think there is a strategy ". He objects to what seems to be the ultimatum, " We are going to bomb you, unless you accept our peace agreement ". Nickles believes this is a civil war within a sovereign nation, but if we begin bombing strikes, " We may be igniting a real war ". He firmly stated, " No US ground troops in Kosovo ", but was fast to add, " This administration is very quick to use air power ". Nickles is being a realist here. We may not like the innocent deaths in Kosovo, but where do we draw the line on getting involved in the internal affairs of other countries? There has been genocidal conduct all over Africa, and we don't seem to do much about that ( except possibly leaving our own troops hanging high and dry, and only crying about it later? )!

Senator Joe Biden ( D ) thought " Senator Nickles is seriously mistaken ". Obviously Biden is acting quite bloodthirsty in this politically correct situation, though he admitted " we may lose pilots...but to step away is foolhardy ". He continued, " Milosevic is a petty dictator...his cancer is going to spread ". Hmm, this sort of sounds like the old Vietnam domino theory, to me. Further, Biden thinks ( as well as Nickles ), " I think we should have an up or down vote to authorize the use of force " ( though Nickles thinks this would fail to pass in the Senate, citing Democrat opposition to the Gulf War ). George Will asked him why should we get involved in Kosovo, when in the past we didn't in Spain, Greece or Turkey? Biden danced around the question, but finally replied, " It makes Milosevic pay a high price for his massacres ". This could be quite irresponsible for him to say, as the price could well be measured in the blood and taxpayer dollars of American citizens!

Presidential hopeful Pat Buchanan on: Al Gore negatives, " the Buddhist temple thing ". Red China, " They are not our strategic partners ". Citing that Russia still has thousands of nuclear warheads, " Friendly relations with Russia should be on the top of the list ".

The week ahead will show us the mettle of the Congress and the Whitehouse hosers. Will there be American pilots coming home from Yugoslavia in bodybags, or will those by reserved for Americans in our own cities nuked by Red Chinese weapons in the future, the designs for which were procured directly from us?

- Bongo ( Clinton is once again proving himself to be a tissue paper tiger, unless the targets are innocent undefended civilian ones and the weapons are unmanned cruise missiles! )
